    Description

If you are a fan of early sports car racing here in the United States then you most likely have heard the name Devin.  Bill Devin was a race car driver and businessman who built his own cars starting in the 1950s.  Over the years he made several model race cars and bodies including the Devin Panhard, the Devin 295 body, the Devin SS, and the Devin D and Devin C.  The Devin D used a Devin designed and built rear engine chassis.  It was made to accept either a Volkswagen or Porsche air cooled engine.  The story told is that the Porsche engine Devin D's were so successful that Porsche put a stop to the sale of their engines to Devin. They were humbling the factory Porsche cars on the race track!  The Devin D is about 500 pounds or so lighter than the Porsche Speedster so it would have quite an advantageous power to weight ratio.
This car was built in 1959 and delivered to Texas.  I believe it spent a good bit of its life in the Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana area.  It came with a disassembled Porsche 356 engine and brakes.  I installed a good running Porsche 356 Super engine into the car.  This engine has matching case halves, the correct Zenith carbs, and has excellent compression.  The engine runs very well.  This car has Porsche 356B brakes both front and rear.  This Devin also has Porsche 356 speedometer and tachometer along with other period gauges.  All 4 wheels are genuine 356 wheels.
Here is a rare opportunity to acquire a Devin D with Porsche power and brakes.  This car runs and drives but is not quite yet road worthy.  The engine is very strong.  The brakes need to be rebuilt , lines plumbed, master cylinder rebuilt, etc.  The fiberglass body itself is in good condition showing no major damage or previous repairs.  It has a ton of patina and character and it would be cool to finish the mechanical restoration and drive as is.  Of course, many prefer to have their cars cosmetically restored and this car probably deserves that as Devin D cars are selling for 6 figures plus restored these days.  The chassis itself is very solid.  The only rust we found were several small holes under the battery area. We remediated the rust and welded over that area.  Please note the other cool details such as the original Devin seats (with molded R and L on the back), original early Volkswagen fuel tank, array of vintage gauges, front Porsche brake drums marked L and R,  and the racing windscreen.
I've had a number of Devin cars over the years along with numerous air cooled Porsche's, Volkswagen's, and many other classic sports and vintage cars.  I'm a lifetime car enthusiast and love to sell to people who appreciate cars such as this Devin.   I have sold many cars over the years both out of state and overseas.  I have more pictures and a video of the engine running and can provide a link if you message me thru ebay.  Please don't hesitate to ask me any questions.  This car has a clear title as a 1959 Devin D.  Thank you.
