This is How to Do Shadow Pleating. This is a great technique with some gorgeous results. You can apply this to many different kinds of knits. It is a good way to use up some of that thin yarn that you didn't know what to do with. This is such a easy technique, and capable of producing a very rewarding appearance that causes people to ask how you did it.
You can use this technique on any machine. There are also directions included for smocked shadow pleating with a pattern for a skirt. There is a vest pattern included for shadow pleating, smocked shadow pleating purse, shadow pleats on the bulky with a vest pattern for the bulky also.
