    Description below based on research:
'This double hemisphere map is known by its Latin title,
Orbis Terrarum Descriptio Duobis Planis Hemisphaeriis Comprehesa
    .
and by its author, the cartographer
    Nicolaes Van Geelkercken
(Dutch, c.1585 -1656). It was first published in 1610 in Amsterdam by Jan Jansson (Joannes Jansonius).
The geography is based upon Van Geelckerken's map of 1610, and this is a reproduction of the
    1632 edition
published with the addition of the wonderfully decorative figural embellishments, referred to as 'allegorical spandrel vignettes'. In the corners there are rustic scenes illustrating the Four Seasons and, in the upper and lower center, panoramas of the Garden of Eden and The Last Judgement. The piece shows in fantastic detail the genre figures, like the couple skating, lower right, and some strange archery game in the background of the Spring scenic, upper left'.
