    Description

6.75x11" When John Lennon and Yoko Ono accepted and invitation to perform at the 1971 John Sinclair Freedom Rally in Ann Arbor, they knew it would be a very special concert event. Sinclair had been sentenced to 10 years in jail for possessing two joints. In addition to their own performances, the John Sinclair benefit concert featured Phil Ochs, Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger and Allen Ginsberg as well as activists like Jerry Rubin, Bobby Seale and David Dellinger, so Lennon and Ono commissioned "Ten For Two", a film documentary of the event. The film is still unavailable for release in the U.S. however it had a two day "World Premier" in 1989. This is the flier promoting the April 1, 1989 showing in Royal Oak, Michigan and the April 2 showing at Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor. The poster was designed by Gary Grim and Frank Bach and carries the 1989 copyright of John Sinclair, who was released from jail shortly after the John Sinclair Freedom Rally that took place Dec. 10, 1971 in Crisler Arena at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Grimshaw also designed the 1971 concert poster and the 2011 40th anniversary poster. Lennon performed 3 songs and Ono 1. As they paid for the film documentary, they controlled its release and this small poster documents the only two tines Ono has allowed it to be shown in theatres. Some people think the film was no released at the time to avoid escalation of the battle over Lennon's deportation initiated by Nixon's administration as payback for Lennon's war protests. Portions have been used in later documentaries (with permission) including "The U.S. vs. John Lennon" by David Leaf and "John Scheinfeld (2006). Sometimes a low quality version of "Ten For Two" can be found on YouTube. The poster is mint and very scarce.
